Spinal Decompression From Davison Chiropractic

At Davison Chiropractic, we offer chiropractic care in Tualatin to everyone who comes to see us. During the past few years, we have worked hard to expand our services, ensuring that everyone who comes to see us has access to a chiropractor who will place their needs first. One of the services that we recently added to our practice is called spinal decompression. There are a few important points about this treatment technique that we believe everyone should note.

.

What Is Spinal Decompression?

We use several different treatment techniques to take care of our patients. One of the most common is called spinal decompression. For those who might not know, spinal decompression uses something called traction to help people who suffer from back pain. The back is made up of vertebrae that protect the nerves as they travel through the spinal cord. These vertebrae play an important role; however, they also need to have enough space between them to allow the nerves to pass. Sometimes, the vertebrae start to compress each other. This can lead to back pain because the vertebrae rub against each other and can impact the nerves.

In spinal decompression, a slight amount of traction is placed on the back to gradually expand the spaces between the vertebrae. This traction will increase the amount of space that is present, alleviating back pain.

How Is Spinal Decompression used in Chiropractic Care

There are a few situations in which spinal decompression can be helpful; however, the most common is with a herniated disc. The vertebrae are separated by small discs; however, the discs can also rupture. This causes the vertebrae to sit on top of each other, leading to severe pain. With spinal decompression, the space between the vertebrae will increase, alleviating pressure that would otherwise pinch the nerves as they leave the back. In addition, spinal decompression is also used to help patients who suffer from a pinched nerve. In this manner, spinal decompression can play an important role in numerous treatment plans.
